Bolivia Mission Update

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Recorded on December 7, 2008. Jamie and Susan Ramge share some of their experiences as missionaries in Bolivia. They work with the Quechua indians. The Ramges describe the Quechuan Christians as the most giving and generous people they’ve known. When serving the Quechua, the Ramges pack five gallon cans of gasoline on their vehicles to provide fuel for their vehicle and the portable generator used in their ministry.

Jamie emphasized the best way to help new converts is to encourage them to worship God in a way that fits their culture. The Quechua often worship God for several hours singing songs they’ve created in their own language. Jamie and Susan spend much of their time helping the Quechua leaders become more effective leaders in their community.

The political climate in Bolivia is not entirely stable, and the Ramges have asked us to pray about that. We also have agreed to pray for Jamie and Susan as they immerse themselves in learning Quechua. Naturally we will pray for God’s providence with vehicle and technology maintenance as Jamie and Susan travel into remote areas in Bolivia.

Find out what Jamie and Susan Ramge have to say about their experience as missionaries in Bolivia by visiting the “From Richard’s Heart” podcast page.

“Billy the Early Years” now in 15 States

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

The biographical movie about Billy Graham’s early life is now being shown in 15 States. Unfortunately it is not available in Colorado–yet. Remember when Billy Graham came to Denver, and we participated in the crusade? Remember when many famous evangelists and tv preachers were caught in some very compromising situations at that time? Remember the Denver area media trying their hardest to uncover some scandal associated with Billy Graham’s evangelical team? Remember the tv and newspaper people concluding Billy Graham and his people were boring–boring because no one could find any scandal associated with the Billy Graham team. Anyone remember coming to know Christ through his ministry?

i challenge anyone associated with Mesa Community Church to pray for the success of this film. i challenge all of us to pray that the film becomes available in theaters throughout Colorado. i challenge us to go to Billy the Early Years‘ web site and send Billy Graham a special greeting for his 90th birthday. A link to the movie’s web site is available on our Links page.

Do we experience Jonah’s fate?

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

Recorded on September 14, 2008. Sometimes we choose to run away from God’s calling. We go to extraordinary lengths to escape God’s plan for us. This often results in disaster for ourselves and those around us. When we choose to return to obeying God in our lives, we witness a mighty work by the hand of God through us.

Richard looks at the book of Jonah today. He shows how costly running away from God is. He shows when Jonah finally does yield to God, Jonah saw many people escape certain death.

At times we struggle with God’s will. He sends us into enemy territory to show our enemies that God loves them. We know God loves us, but does He have to love our enemies too? Like Jonah, most Christians know in their heart that God prefers granting mercy to those who want us dead. God asks us view our enemies from His perspective.

Hear what Richard has to say about Jonah by visiting the “From Richard’s Heart” page.

Make the most of every opportunity

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

Recorded on August 17, 2008. Richard talks about Paul’s mandate to make the most of every opportunity given to us by God. We are to take advantage of every opportunity to witness. Even when that opportunity isn’t safe or convenient or comfortable for us personally.

Richard takes a close look at 1 Corinthians 16:8 and following. He shows that with Paul’s safe and effective work, there were many who opposed Paul. Discovering resistance and opposition to our efforts can be a good clue on whether we are being effective for God. Satan ignores us when we aren’t doing anything for God.

In all things we are to be on our Guard, stand firm in our faith, and do everything in love. This takes courage, requires prayer, and takes great strength on our part.

Finally, can we pinpoint how God is working in our life? Do we see that when things go wrong in our life, they are often going right with Jesus?

This is our first podcast episode posted on our new server. So far i have not found any major problems with our new feed. God willing, i will have another episode of “From Richard’s Heart” available before the end of September.

Zambia Mission Trip

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

Recorded on August 31, 2008. Brandon and Shaun Pearman share their thoughts and experiences on their recent mission trip to Zambia. Brandon talks about the power the local witch-doctors have over the Zambian children. He also points out that Satan engages all of us in spiritual warfare on many fronts.
Shaun showed us the harsh economic conditionsof the Zambians. Yet, the Zambian children show thanks for even the small things they recieve. He reminds us how God can transform this world through the most unlikely people.

This is the episode that created havoc for me when i tried uploading it on our old server. The podcasting software that our hosting company provided us basically insisted we had too many episodes. After spending many hours trying to fix the problem, i decided to move our site to this server. i’m also FeedForAll to generate the .xml files needed to create our podcasts.

As always, i encourage you to subscribe and listen to our podcast by visiting “From Richard’s Heart.”

Go!

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

Recorded June 22, 2008. Richard’s message is based on Mark 16:15 and following. He highlights the word “Go!” Richard emphasizes Jesus did not make a “suggestion” or a request. Jesus expects us to do something. We are to go and preach the good news throughout the world.
As a small church we accomplish Jesus’s mandate to go by our financial support of people called to the mission field. We further accomplish Christ’s command by not discouraging the enthusiasm of new Christians. Finally we obey Christ’s directive to go into all the world by proclaiming the news of God’s salvation via our podcasts and our web site.

Richard’s health prevents him from standing through an entire message. He often sits on a stool while he talks to us. Richard sometimes refers to his simple wood stool as his “throne.”

i would like to thank Bill for providing me with the funds to purchase a program designed to set ID3 tags. This small program has already saved me several hours of frustration. For those who want to know, ID3 tags are used by iTunes and other podcatchers to provide specific information about each episode when you click on the “i” symbol. on the description column associated with each podcast episode. ID3 tags also provide the artwork that appears when you click on a podcast episode in iTunes. Until recently correctly setting the ID3 tags in our podcast series has been at best a painful process.

Again thanks, Bill, for providing me with the money to purchase software to make setting ID3 tags much easier.
